PRR 2001, BF-16, c. 1957
Here is the second of eight original photos that were taken by an unidentified photographer at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here (L to R) is PRR engine #2001 and another unit whose road number is not recorded. #2001 is a BF-16 built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in June of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower, later rebuilt as an ABF-18 rated at 1,800 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966 after 15 years of revenue service. They're pulling a mixed-cargo freight train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West.
