| Diner-lounge car 8331 was originally New York Central 44-seat grill-diner 452 and then Penn Central 4552. It was one of 18 cars built by Budd in 1948 as NYC 450-467. Thirteen of these cars went into the Penn Central 4550-4566 series, and nine of them became Amtrak diner-lounge cars 8330-8338. The 8331 was photographed on the northbound PANAMA LIMITED; it was upgraded into Heritage Fleet diner 8516 in 1981, and was remodeled into grill-diner 8553 in 1985. |
