AMTK Heater Car #660 - Amtrak |
Description: |
Here is a car that has been transformed and moved from one roster to another. It started out being built by EMD as Great Northern F3B #354B in December of 1947 (serial #4695). It was converted to a heater car and renumbered first GN #10 on July 1, 1965. Next it landed on the BN roster as their #10. Then on 8/23/1972, the unit was sold to Amtrak and became their #660. Currently it is in private ownership in Willits, CA. An unknown photographer took this color slide. |

AMTK Heater Car #661 - Amtrak |
Description: |
Here is another unit that has led an interesting life. The unit started out as an EMD built F3B for Great Northern as their #434B unit. It was converted to a heater car and renumbered GN #11. It then moved over to the Burlington Northern roster on the merger to become BN #11, it was then sold to Amtrak and started out as their AMTK #1911 but later renumbered again to 661. Current disposition is unknown. An unidentified photographer caught it while it was in the Los Angeles, CA, area. |

Description: |
OK, so I have never subscribed to the theory held by some old railroaders that certain equipment is a "Hoodoo," or albatross that bad luck seems to flock to. This is my only photo of #666, seen backing onto the Empire Builder. Either ol' 666 was camera shy and used its supernatural powers to screw up my photo, or this was the last image on a 36-exposure roll of Ectachrome. I'll let you decide! |
