Album Info:
What a satisfying close to Autumn, and a quick ushering in of winter. A mid-November snowfall provided a sparkling background for one of my "Pics of the Year" for 2018. Plus a first-hand encounter with a ghost from the past - a CN RDC built in 1958, and now used as a self-propelled track geometry test train. Restored CN 4-8-4 steam, and a sky-blue CN/IC diesel, round off this month's second installment.

After heading east out of Port Robinson, Train 422 loops around the Clifton Wye in Niagara Falls, then heads west, where I caught it at the Garner Road grade crossing, just ahead of the Welland Canal bridge.

Crisp blue IC Dash-8 is middle unit in today's power trio on Train 562. I missed a chance for a shot of the actual innards of this locomotive - the hood doors were left unlatched and swung open as the train passed, but I wasn't expecting the opportunity, and didn't have my camera ready.

Description:
I thought I was in a Twilight Zone episode...but it's November 22, 2018 - What a totally pleasant surprise coming into Port Robinson this morning on the Stamford Subdivision. CN 1501, an RDC (Rail Diesel Car) converted to a Self-Propelled Track Geometry Car, was originally a CN RDC-1, labelled D-108, built in 1958 for passenger service. As an RDC-1 it had coach seats only. All RDCs, except for the RDC-5/9, have two diesel engines driving the wheels, so they are self-propelled and have operator controls at each end.

Today, identified as Train 999 by the dispatcher, I caught the train first here, coming into the yard at Port Robinson, then drove around to the south end for a shot into the yard as it lined up near the yard office. I missed it coming out of the yard, but after a very lively chase, caught up to it again approaching the Brookfield Wye, where it was headed to do some track testing.
