The engine had just been rebuilt from Norfolk & Western SD45 1796 by VMV Enterprises at Paducah, Kentucky and was awaiting delivery to the Southern Pacific for the continuation of its trip to Mexico.

TRAVELLER was built by Jackson & Sharp in 1901 as Bangor & Aroostook wood office car 200. It was sold to the Intercolonial Railway as their WINNIPEG and then became Canadian Government Railways car 30. Somewhere around this time the car was rebuilt with steel sheathing over the original wood, to the configuration that it now wears. From CGR it became Canadian National 102, then CN 85 and then CN 65 before being sold into private ownership. It eventually became A&M TRAVELLER and then Livonia Avon & Lakeville 100.
